Prenatal massage performed by a trained therapist is widely considered safe and beneficial from the second trimester onward. The key is that the therapist is specifically trained in pregnancy positioning and technique, and avoids certain pressure points and areas that are contraindicated during pregnancy. Standard massage is generally not recommended in the first trimester. Always consult your doctor or midwife if you have any specific concerns about your pregnancy.
We recommend caution during the first trimester and advise you to consult your doctor or midwife before booking. Many healthcare providers advise avoiding massage in the first trimester due to the elevated risk of miscarriage during this period. From 12–14 weeks onward, with your doctor's approval, prenatal massage is generally considered safe.
Our prenatal-trained therapists avoid deep abdominal massage, deep lower back pressure, specific acupressure points linked to uterine stimulation (particularly around the ankles and lower legs), and any position that places weight or pressure on the abdomen. They also avoid certain essential oils including rosemary, clary sage, and peppermint in high concentrations.
Post-natal massage — gentle massage for new mothers — is generally safe and very beneficial from 2–4 weeks after a vaginal birth and 6–8 weeks after a caesarean, with your doctor's clearance. Please let us know you are postpartum when booking and we will adapt the treatment appropriately.
Side-lying with full pillow and bolster support. Our therapists are trained in pregnancy positioning and bring specialist equipment specifically for this. The position is designed to be genuinely comfortable — not a compromise — even in the third trimester.
Pregnancy is a time when your body deserves more care, not less. And in Bali — away from home, perhaps far from your regular support network — professional prenatal massage delivered directly to your villa is not a luxury. It is care.
Putu Bali Spa Home Care delivers that care with skill, sensitivity, and genuine expertise — wherever you are staying, at whatever hour you need it.
